Manifesto for 2018
Victoria Elizabeth Driscoll for President
About Me.
Hi, my name’s Victoria-Elizabeth but if you see me around please don’t be shy, feel free to say hi and call me Vicks or Vicky! I am a first year Adult Nursing student based at Havering Campus. I’m 27 years old, originally born and raised in Cardiff but moved to Essex 4 years ago. After living in Braintree for a while I recently moved into Brentwood with my fiancé. Despite being in my first year I do have around 4 years of experience working with Learning Disabilities, Challenging Behaviour and Mental Health as a RSW/HCA. I specifically worked within various residential homes and supported living houses as well as medium and high secure units. I have worked in healthcare with young adults, adults and the elderly and also out of healthcare in other fields but I am now looking to move my career away from mental health and into adult nursing. I am a very bubbly, friendly and approachable person. I am hard working and enjoy a challenge so I hope to be able to represent and help all nurses wherever needed.
Manifesto.
Rather than enforce changes I would seek to build on the work of my predecessors within the society. As a student of Havering Campus I would be keen to encourage the involvement of the Havering Campus in collaboration with Southwark Campus. To do this I would like to:
- Forge stronger bonds with the Royal College of Nursing in a way that will benefit all of the nursing body,
- Promote participation in course related revision groups and new and existing workshops both for Southwark and Havering campuses,
- Coordinate relevant charity events to help those in need whilst encouraging active participation in, and support for, our society,
- Arrange social events for all nurses across Havering and Southwark including things such as student competitions arranging more trips related to our field of study, attempt to organise relevant talks with guest speakers and seminar groups (where there is a demand for this), and other varying degrees of social events.
- Promote the Nursing Society on new and existing forms of social media and incorporating a new hashtag to boost our reach,
- Promote the branded merchandise on offer by the society,
- Ensure the nursing society is available for all nurses and can listen and aim to assist with their queries, issues or requests.
I would like all students to see the Nursing Society as advocates for all Student Nurses’. I want to acknowledge the needs and concerns of the student body whether they are social or course/placement related needs or wants and, where possible address these. Overall I want to encourage more participation with the nursing society and ensure that all of us, no matter where we are studying or what form of nursing we are working towards, have a fun and memorable time whilst studying at LSBU.
Fatuma Mahamudi for Secretary
"Yes, HERE FOR YOU"
Hello LSBU people, I’m Fatuma Mahamudi and I am in my first year of Children’s Nursing.
This is my first time applying for a Secretary position in LBSU, but back in Italy I was working as a Secretary in a company called “Hakuna Matata di ZAFE”. So don’t worry, I have good experience of maintaining effective records and organising documents and catalogues.
GOALS FOR MY TIME OF OFFICE?
* organise appointments or meetings and book rooms, when needed.
* Write or type minutes of meetings; contact and inform everyone so that every and each of us is up to date about what is going on in our Nursing Society.
* Update our documents and keep a diary of future Nursing Society’s activities, making sure that we always have activities and events for our LSBU people.
ANY CHANGES TO MAKE?
I believe in giving everyone one the chance to express their needs and concerns. Therefore, I challenge you to come and raise your concern and desire and I will be your advocate!
Additionally, I will make sure that our Nursing Society doesn’t lack a good organisation and transparency. As a Secretary with a great determination to do well, I will make sure that everything is said, written and addressed.
That’s all I have to tell you. Now it’s your time. Vote for me and you won’t be let down :)
Edita Simutyte for Treasurer
Hi, my name is Edita Simutyte, and I am running for Nursing Society Treasurer position. I am a second- year children’s nursing student.
As nurses we abide by the 6 C’s, however, in my practice I use another acronym- 6 Ps : Proper Preparation and Planning Prevents Poor Performance. I believe that this moto is very useful not only when preparing for exams but managing larger projects such as financing a student society.
I am currently enrolled in Edward Jenner Leadership programme as well as Council of Deans Student Leadership Programme and have recently joined Royal College of Nursing Student Information Officer position (RCN SIO). Thanks to these experiences I can say that I have good organisational skills. I am interested in a variety of topics and have gained an online certificate in Foundations of Finance and Accounting. Therefore, I have the knowledge required to support the Nursing Society in the capacity of treasurer. I believe I would do a good job at managing funds and cost allocation for the society.
During my time in the office, I want not only to be successful at managing the finance part of the position but do my best at fundraising and introducing new sponsorships for the Nursing Society. I intend to work closely with the rest of the executive and auxiliary teams to raise awareness and involvement of current nursing students at LSBU that are not yet members of this great society.I believe in teamwork and collaboration, and I am eager to see Nursing Society thrive during my time in the position and thereafter.
